Stephenson Equipment Inc. (SEI), Harrisburg, PA, has opened a new location between Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, PA. The new facility will be located in Laflin Borough 2 mi. north of Pocono Downs on Route 315. Company Expands Just Three Months After Formation →

Stafford Tractor of the Carolinas has only been in existence since April 1, but it has already gone through its first expansion. The division of Stafford Development, a 55-year-old business based in Tifton, GA, opened up shop at 9831 Brookford St. in Charlotte, NC, and, just three months later, finalized its acquisition of Atlantic Coast Cranes in Ashland, VA. With New U.S. 360 Bridge Open, Contractors Begin Demolition →

Key Construction Company Inc. is nearing the half-way point on its contract for improvements on U.S. 360 in Halifax County from Route 58 to just north of Route 34 at Hodges Street. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) awarded the contract worth $24.4 million to Clarksville, VA-based Key Construction in 2003. Included in the contract, which has an estimated completion date of August 2007, are twin bridges for the John Randolph Bridge crossing and a bridge being built on Vaughan Street over U.S.  Click for more...


Crane Rental Corp. Helps NASA’s ’Return to Flight’ →

Crane Rental Corporation is doing its small part to help lift NASA’s shuttle program back into space. Under a subcontract with Ivey’s Construction of Brevard County, the Orlando-based company has rolled a Manitowoc 2250 crawler crane to launch pad 39A. The machine, which boasts a 300-ton capacity, is handling some heavy-duty parts of the launch tower. Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers wrapped up its largest Chicago-area auction (its third largest North American auction) on June 1 to 3 in Morris, IL, with gross auction sales exceeding $59 million. Approximately 3,000 people from 35 countries and all 50 U.S. states registered to bid during the three-day unreserved auction at the company’s 91-acre permanent auction site southwest of Chicago. Tadano America Corp. President Kenichi Sawada started the company’s used crane division in January and appointed Denis Roberts as used crane manager. A veteran of the crane industry since 1974, Roberts has worked as an operator, salesman, and in the parts and repair departments. On occasion, Roberts, who is based in Augusta, GA, has even instructed newcomers in crane operation. ’Kids of All Ages’ Get to Meet the Machines in Missouri →

Approximately 2,000 adults and 1,300 kids, ages 3 to 15, attended the first annual “Meet the Machines” event co-sponsored by The Budrovich Companies and Fabick CAT. The event was held at Budrovich’s headquarters, which is on the site of an old quarry, in south St. Louis County on April 16. Every child received a hard hat and work-order ticket upon entry to the event. Desrochers Crane Service Presses HTC 8650-II Into Service →

Until recently, Desrochers Crane Service of Derby, VT, had a dilemma of sorts. The company, located just a few miles from the Canadian border, had a 30-ton National crane and a 90-ton Grove crane, but nothing to take care of jobs in the huge gap in between. That was when Robert Desrochers turned to Wood’s CRW, of Williston, VT.
