To better serve its customers in the Carolinas and beyond, Pinnacle Cranes, the dealer of Link-Belt cranes and Manitex boom trucks, has opened a spacious new facility in Midland, N.C., just a few minutes outside of Charlotte. The 20,000-sq.-ft. building sits on 10 acres and features two services bays with two, 10-ton Kone overhead cranes. NessCampbell's First Grove GMK5250XL-1 Hits the Ground Running in Oregon →

Portland, Ore.-based NessCampbell Crane + Rigging, a longtime Manitowoc customer, put its new Grove GMK5250XL-1 all-terrain crane to work immediately after it was delivered in late September. The crane was the first of its kind to arrive in the Northwest, and it already has successfully completed a handful of jobs. End of an Era: Last LR 1600/2 Leaves Liebherr Plant in Ehingen →

The 660 ton (600 t) LR 1600/2 crawler crane is being removed from the Liebherr crawler crane portfolio. Two hundred and twenty three of them have been built and delivered to customers over a period of almost 13 years. Its successor has already been launched in the form of the LR 1700-1.0. Inspecting Tower Cranes Maintains Efficiency, Keeps Personnel Safe →

Tower cranes are a critical building tool. For many urban construction jobs to begin, tower cranes need to be assembled onsite well in advance. Much like the buildings they are used to construct, an assessment need to be performed before the crane is put into operation. Once assembled, work can only be started after the crane is approved by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ). Arizona-based Stafford Crane Group (SCG) has announced the acquisition of Portuguese tower crane manufacturer Soima Cranes. With this acquisition, SCG gains control over design and production of its tower crane equipment and will be able to take its customer service in rental operations to the next level, the company said. Long-Time Crane Representative Patrick Leatherwood Passes Away →

Patrick Curtis Leatherwood, 55, passed away Sept. 10, 2021, at home. Mr. Leatherwood was born Oct. 13, 1965, in East Point, Ga. In 1971, his family moved to Moultrie, Ga., where he grew up and graduated from Colquitt County High School. He then attended the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Cleveland-based Lincoln Electric, a manufacturer of welding equipment, made a big splash a decade ago when it constructed a wind turbine on its property and pledged to use the energy derived as 10 percent of its plant's total electricity requirement. Huge Neo-Panamax Container Cranes Squeeze Under Bridges to Dock in Baltimore →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Following a two-month journey that included a dramatic passage under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the Francis Scott Key Bridge, four new, massive Neo-Panamax container cranes arrived Sept. 9 at the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore's Seagirt Marine Terminal. Among the tallest in the world, at 450 ft. tall, approximately 25 ft. higher than current cranes, their passage stopped traffic on the bridges, the Associated Press reported.  Click for more...
