After taking delivery of a Grove GMK6300L-1 in February 2020, MSG Krandienst (MSG) took delivery of its new GMK4100L-1 and GMK5150L at the Manitowoc factory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, in October. The new all-terrain cranes from northern Germany will strengthen the capabilities of MSG's primary location in Kehl, Baden-Württemberg, with the GMK5150L replacing its predecessor, a GMK5130-2, and the GMK4100L-1 replacing a competitor crane. CWI Crane & Rigging Adds New Demag to Fleet →

CWI Crane & Rigging has purchased a new 120 ton capacity 2020 Demag AC100-4L from Empire Crane Company. CWI needed to replace a 110 ton truck crane and wanted a longer boom as well as all terrain functions. In the spring of 2019, CWI purchased a Demag AC250-5 from Empire Crane. Its experience with that unit ultimately influenced its decision to purchase a second Demag all terrain crane. Callahan & Nannini Quarry Ends 2020 With a Bang →

Callahan & Nannini was hired to assemble a 50 ft. high "2020" structure for the late night show "Last Week Tonight" with John Oliver. Of the 30 different picks it took to assemble, the heaviest was approximately 5,000 lbs. VP Rob Nannini said, "It had LED light strips on the inside so we had to be very careful while picking sections." Callahan & Nannini used a 6010 Tadano Mantis, which it purchased from Empire Crane. Trent Burns, instructor and inspector with Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB), has been selected to join 25 other volunteers to develop a new certification program for telehandler operators. The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) made the decision to develop this new certification program in response to OSHA requirements and industry demand. Volunteers were accepted on the basis of industry expertise and were drawn from diverse backgrounds, including unions, rental firms, training companies, construction contractors, safety consultants, insurance and regulatory authorities. A Grove GMK5250L all-terrain crane, configured with 300 ft. (91 m) of boom, lifted and placed metal structures that together will form the roof of a machinery warehouse at a mining facility in the Peruvian Andes. Given the constricted workspace at the site, the 300-ton (250 t) capacity mobile crane was the ideal solution for the job, as other vehicles needed to use the same road in which the crane was positioned. When Hurricane Sally swept through Florida in September, it left behind millions of dollars in damage. This included a couple of cranes at a construction site in the state's panhandle, which were knocked out of commission as a result. It was a small hardship in the overall scheme of things, but significant to the contractor, which was left scrambling for replacements. The good news? A towering, floating crane arrived on the Georgia coast in October to remove giant chunks of a cargo ship that overturned more than a year ago off St. Simon's Island. The crane, known as the VB-10,000, was soon straddling the shipwreck of the Golden Ray, a South Korean vessel that capsized Sept. 8, 2019, approximately 70 mi. south of Savannah. The ALL Family of Companies is adding nine new Link-Belt cranes to its fleet. The purchase comes on the heels of a previous 16-unit Link-Belt package announced earlier in the year. This latest purchase includes six telecrawlers — two each of the 80-ton TCC-800, 140-ton TCC-1400, and 250-ton TCC-2500 — and three truck cranes: 60-ton HTC-8660, 75-ton HTC-8675, and 110-ton HTC-86110. On behalf of customer Enercon, crane service provider Sarens was scheduled to erect two wind turbines at the Bouwdokken wind farm close to the Dutch North Sea village of Vrouwenpolder.
