Gary Lane Named Link-Belt Cranes North American Sales Manager →
Gary Lane has been named manager of North American sales of Link-Belt Cranes, effective Feb. 1, 2021. Bill Stramer, senior vice president of marketing, sales and customer support made the announcement at Link-Belt's headquarters in Lexington, Ky. Lane is a 15-year veteran of the crane business and is well respected among crane industry professionals. Jerome "Jake" Liptak, one of the co-founders of ALL Erection & Crane Rental Corp. and a pioneer in the crane rental category has died. He was 83. With his brothers Mike and Larry, and Mike's wife, Marvine, Mr. Liptak co-founded the company in 1964. Demag Introduces AC 80-4 All-Terrain Crane →
Demag already had an 88 ton (80-t) crane at one point: The AC 80-2. "The worldwide success that this model had showed that there's significant interest in a crane with this kind of lifting capacity," said Michael Klein, the product marketing manager in charge. "In fact, a large number of customers kept confirming this time and time again. That's why we decided to add the AC 80-4 to our product portfolio in the segment of up to 100 tonnes." On Nov. 14, 2020, the Ohio State Buckeyes did not play at Maryland as scheduled — another college football postponement brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. But that day on the OSU campus in Columbus, a display of teamwork and awesome power was still taking place. General contractor Messer Construction of Cincinnati, Ohio, was awarded the contract for a new $27 million Andrew J. Brady ICON Music Center to be built in downtown Cincinnati. When completed, the music center will have an indoor capacity of 4,500 and outdoor seating for 8,000. After taking delivery of a Grove GMK6300L-1 in February 2020, MSG Krandienst (MSG) took delivery of its new GMK4100L-1 and GMK5150L at the Manitowoc factory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, in October. The new all-terrain cranes from northern Germany will strengthen the capabilities of MSG's primary location in Kehl, Baden-Württemberg, with the GMK5150L replacing its predecessor, a GMK5130-2, and the GMK4100L-1 replacing a competitor crane. CWI Crane & Rigging has purchased a new 120 ton capacity 2020 Demag AC100-4L from Empire Crane Company. CWI needed to replace a 110 ton truck crane and wanted a longer boom as well as all terrain functions. In the spring of 2019, CWI purchased a Demag AC250-5 from Empire Crane. Its experience with that unit ultimately influenced its decision to purchase a second Demag all terrain crane. Callahan & Nannini was hired to assemble a 50 ft. high "2020" structure for the late night show "Last Week Tonight" with John Oliver. Of the 30 different picks it took to assemble, the heaviest was approximately 5,000 lbs. VP Rob Nannini said, "It had LED light strips on the inside so we had to be very careful while picking sections." Callahan & Nannini used a 6010 Tadano Mantis, which it purchased from Empire Crane. Trent Burns, instructor and inspector with Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB), has been selected to join 25 other volunteers to develop a new certification program for telehandler operators. The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) made the decision to develop this new certification program in response to OSHA requirements and industry demand. Volunteers were accepted on the basis of industry expertise and were drawn from diverse backgrounds, including unions, rental firms, training companies, construction contractors, safety consultants, insurance and regulatory authorities. Grove GMK5250L's Easy Mobility Delivers Precise Lifts at Peruvian Mine →
A Grove GMK5250L all-terrain crane, configured with 300 ft. (91 m) of boom, lifted and placed metal structures that together will form the roof of a machinery warehouse at a mining facility in the Peruvian Andes. When Hurricane Sally swept through Florida in September, it left behind millions of dollars in damage. This included a couple of cranes at a construction site in the state's panhandle, which were knocked out of commission as a result. It was a small hardship in the overall scheme of things, but significant to the contractor, which was left scrambling for replacements. The good news?
